| The Big If What Anwar's Pakatan takes over Putrajaya? Posted: 12 Jan 2012 02:36 PM PST The lingering question is what will be the political landscape in Malaysia if the opposition Pakatan coalition will indeed helms power post the 13th General Election to be held anytime from now. The scenario in the Federal level is crystal clear in that Najib and his cabinet will vacate their lofty seats in plush precints of Putrajaya, and, in Parliament, they will be switching sides with Anwar Ibrahim and company. In the various States where the opposition win, of course we will see new Chief Ministers and Mentri Besar heading those States. This is where the mind is thinking of as far as Sarawak is concerned. One thing is certain; Taib government will still be intact as there will be no election for the State of Sarawak as they had just had theirs only earlier last year (2010). Sarawak is "UMNO" free, as they are ruled by local based parties headed by Taib Mahmud's PBB and their coalition partners of PRS, SUPP and SPDP. This is where the plot thickens! These political parties are in the BN fold headed by the presently ruling UMNO. Now, if UMNO and the rest of the BN coalition loses grasp of the Federal Government, will the ruling parties in Sarawak then abandoning BN and switching sides, or, staying status quo and becoming an opposition State? If this scenario unfolds, it is intriguing times ahead. Taib will be facing the biggest dilemma of his political career! If he stays with BN and still leads an opposition State, am sure a federal government led by Anwar will hound Taib and company now that the MACC and the Police will be at his ( Anwar's) disposal! Will PRS, SPDP or SUPP then abandon PBB and join Anwar to be its ruling partners? More interestingly, will Taib immediately fly in his Stateowned jet and be the first person to offer congratulations to Anwar in Segambut ? Your take? |

| Posted: 12 Jan 2012 06:30 AM PST Sodomy II is now over after a long and perilous trial. It is not Anwar Ibrahim that I cared less, but I cared more for his family members. I sense the agony, restlessness, fear and uncertainty that the family members had gone through all these years. I being a father of three children and a grandfather of four grand children could sense the suffering endured by Dr. Wan Azizah, her children and grandchildren. It is because of such great feelings of sympathy that I had for Anwar's family that had influenced me to slant most of my writings to favour Anwar Ibrahim. I am truly amazed at the strength of Dr. Wan Azizah to be able to withstand the persistent onslaught against her husband by UMNO, and to be able to keep the family glued together in times of absolute hardship. With the trial over, I hope Anwar's family members can now go on with their lives in the comfort that they do not have to endure many more trips to the Jalan Duta High Court. The slandering, smearing, scurrilous attacks and character assassination of Anwar and his family by UMNO and their cohorts however will not cease. Even as I write, I could already hear voices of dissent against Anwar, and expectedly from none other than Ummi Hafilda, the sister of PKR's Azmin Ali. Isn't this the woman that was embroiled in Anwar Ibrahim's first sodomy charge? And wasn't she the woman that was renounced by her own father for causing a feud within the family? To be renounced by her own father is serious and hell awaits her if she does not repent and seek forgiveness from her father. I do not know if she had ever sought forgiveness from her father before he died. Ummi Hafilda has vowed to continue her personal vendetta and scurrilous attacks against the three A's i.e. Anwar, Azizah and Azmin. I am quite sure she will be a super campaigner for UMNO in the run up to the election, slandering everyone that is associated with Anwar including his own blood brother Azmin. You call this an honorable lady? It's only UMNO that honors' her. So Ummi, please keep on slandering and smearing others to your heart's contend. And after you have finished, take a look at the mirror and ask yourself if you have never sinned in your lifetime. From the statements made by UMNO/BN leaders following Anwar's not guilty verdict, there isn't the obvious fear shown by them that more trouble can be expected from Anwar, given his new found freedom. The show of 'confidence' can either mean that UMNO/BN is fully equipped and ready to take on the full brunt of Anwar's onslaught, or that the party is now too confused and digging hard to device new strategies to counter Anwar's new wave of popularity that is so obviously seen at all his political rallies. This new wave of popularity is a photo copy of the scene that led to PR unexpected victory in denying UMNO/BN their two third majority during the 2008 GE. While PR leaders are already in the forefront in their daily political rallies, UMNO/BN leaders are still tugged in the comfort of their stately homes, officiating functions and possibly attending dinners as its guest of honour. Maybe, some would return home on the weekends to their constituencies for a meet-the-members session and to hand out a gift or two. It is interesting to make a comparison on the people's appeal and response at UMNO/BN's and PR political rallies. I note that there is an obvious mismatch between the two political parties, notably in the quality of the speakers and their fluency at articulating issues. I think PR has an upper hand at this. PR also seems to have a retinue of young and able speakers at any particular rally and their appearance is pleasantly received by the audience who are also generally young. I wonder why is the UMNO genius Khairy Jamaluddin so quite now? Has he not started his rallies? I am just waiting to hear him debate with PR's Rafizi over the NFC scandal. In UMNO/BN it is only PM Najib that seems to be making his rounds at meet-the-people sessions, but the audiences that attend his political rallies are certainly far short of the numbers attending Anwar Ibrahim's rallies. If this can be taken as a measure of popularity, I think Anwar Ibrahim is one up on PM Najib. Anwar Ibrahim's oratory skills and the way he appeals to the audience to communicate with him is no match for PM Najib. PM Naijb's is too stereotype in his speech and presentation. He also does have the right vocal to attract the audience attention. I think UMNO/BN has yet to be awakened to the political realities that surround them; made worse by the recent corruption scandals plaguing the party leaders. Despite the obvious misdeeds, PM Najib has yet to level blame on anyone of them. On the contrary, PM Najib has declared that there are no claims of corruption against anyone of them i.e. Shahrizat, Awang Adek, Jamil Khir and I suppose this includes the two aides of Ministers. And what about Azalina Othman Said? A decision like this I think will be the cause for the eventual downfall of PM Najib and that of his party. If indeed UMNO/BN is to fall this upcoming GE, then it is the number 13 that is to be blamed. CRUSADE AGAINST CORRUPTION |

| Shahrizat takes leave as minister Posted: 12 Jan 2012 03:04 AM PST Shahrizat Jalil will be on leave for three weeks from tomorrow as Women, Family and Community Development Minister. She has put in the leave application to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. "I hope the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will be able to undertake the investigation to determine whether I was associated with or not in any of the decisions made by the Government on the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) in which my husband, Datuk Seri Dr Mohammad Salleh Ismail, is the executive chairman," she said in a statement. The NFC issue cropped up after the 2010 Auditor-General's Report issued last October said the corporation's cattle-breeding project in Gemas, Negeri Sembilan, to boost production and reduce import of beef had failed to meet its target. The issue heated up following allegations by the opposition political parties of irregularities in the government allocation of RM250 million to NFC. Speculations are rife that Shahrizat will not be chosen as a BN candidate in the next general election. Her Senate seat also will not be extended. I don't want to speculate and contemplate. Its the prerogative rights of Najib as Umno president and Barisan Nasional chairman. Until investigations are concluded, better not write any further... |

| Anwar Guna Amerika Untuk Terlepas Dari Kes Suka Sama Suka?

| Posted: 11 Jan 2012 10:47 PM PST but in my humble opinion, the best way to judge a character is to look out for the little gestures which escape most people's attention. It is easy for anyone who wishes to please another to think in terms of gifts or anything which would interest the other, and preferably when others are looking. But sincerity in action is likely to be found when no one is looking. Just like the saying, 'A true friend is someone who says nice things behind your back', sincerity in action takes the form of looking after another's little needs without being asked. Do not underestimate the effects of small items in a big bill. Once, a successful accountant actually queried the waiter about some small additions to a bill. It turned out those were charges for chili and other sauces! That costed the restaurant his future custom. More recently, a retiree said he would not patronize his so-called friend's restaurant because his wife refused to sell him Rm1 worth of rice to go with what he had bought elsewhere! Other more common instances are unsmiling or even rude workers, and attitude of boss and staff which give the impression we should be grateful to them instead! In fact, I have always noticed the magnanimity of successful business people who tend to waive little charges, or at least round down to the nearest Ringgit, which is much appreciated by customers for what little they are actually worth. Then there are those who shy away from restaurants which charge +10%+ 5% for service and sales tax, and often these are places where tips are expected too! Don't underestimate those small percentages, they could have discouraged some would be customers given the choice. I had a bad experience when I had my car overhauled many years ago. I was actually reminded that they would replace all hoses as routine. Yet, soon after, when in KL, my friend in my car noticed a strong petrol smell. On my way back to BG, just after the Kepong roundabout near Taman Wahyu, I noticed the fuel guage dropping visibly! I stopped the car and asked my brother for help in buying me a petrol hose (costed less than Rm5) to replace a leaking one. My impression was that the workshop people were interested in more costly hoses and neglected the cheap one. Further, the morning after I took back the car from overhaul, the engine was running worse than before! As it turned out, it was due to the cold start valve which the person in charge got the nerve to replace with a second hand one which he happened to have, and which I was sure it was mine in the first place! My earlier bill for overhaul was more than Rm4,000, so the once reputed workshop's integrity nosedived as far as I was concerned. More recently, my neighbour who lives in a so-called Villa and has a so-called Wisma, encroached on public land in front of our house for vegetable plot. Whatever pride he has for what he owns, in my book, he is shameless in this small action. Politically, when I read about KJ's accumulated traffic fines exceeding Rm5,000, I had a bad impression of him when he was the famous Son-in-law. Didn't that smack of arrogance and the 'above the law' attitude typical of those in power? Link |

| Gay Backers Hail Anwar Acquittal Posted: 11 Jan 2012 07:00 PM PST ![]() Manila, Philippines – The Progressive Organization of Gays in the Philippines (ProGay) welcomed yesterday the acquittal of Malaysian oppositionist Anwar Ibrahim on sodomy charges. Reacting to the judgment of the Kuala Lumpur High Court that Anwar was not guilty of sodomizing his aide Mohammad Saiful Bukhari Azlan, ProGay said it is now time to scrap sodomy laws that were part of British colonial legacy. "We join the democratic people's movements in celebrating Anwar's triumph over the frame-up," said Oscar Atadero, ProGay's human rights officer. ProGay also sees the legal victory as a positive step for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights in Malaysia. ProGay noted that even as the Philippines has no sodomy law, politicians and court justices are attacked with allegations of homosexuality for political gain. (Marvyn N. Benaning) – tempo.com |
| Guan Eng undoes the locks of trouble Posted: 11 Jan 2012 06:23 PM PST Thursday January 12, 2012 Star BEFORE & AFTER (Photo source: Star) GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng attracted attention last October when he sported a lighter brown hairdo with bangs but the new-look seemed to coincide with a spate of bad luck for the DAP secretary-general. So last week, Lim went back to his trademark Brylcreem-look and things seem to have improved for him. During the new hairdo phase, Lim had to contend with continuous barbs over a failed car park (dubbed the Kancil car park) near Penang Hill and also found himself in the centre of DAP's "godfather-warlord" spat, which pitted his deputy Dr P. Ramasamy against party chairman Karpal Singh. AFTER: Things seem to have improved with his trademark Brylcreem-look. It should be noted that Lim does appear to be having a good week since the return of the old look. On Sunday, he welcomed former Umno veterans-turned-bloggers Datuk Mohd Sabri Ariff Abdul Aziz and Aspan Alias to DAP. A day later, Pakatan Rakyat celebrated the acquittal of PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on sodomy charges. And with a "hair-raising" general election said to be just around the corner, Lim may think it best not to take any more chances with his hairdo. |
