| CERTAIN THINGS DO NOT CHANGE WITH POLITICS... Posted: 22 Jan 2012 06:45 AM PST Owh! The general election is here again, yes? Judging by the usual things certain (complacent) political parties do over and over again, one will not be wrong to think that indeed the "undilah calon…" season is really around the corner. An obvious tell tale sign like giving out goodies with picture of a certain politician smack in the middle of a packet of rice is a dead giveaway. It is very obvious, isn't it? Check out the picture below. But then again, I am so sure I have seen this package before, about 40 years ago! When I was a small boy and growing up with in Anakbukit, Alor Setar with my late grandma in the late 1970s, I remembered her telling me one day that "…orghang dah nak undi dah ni". My parents' house was at the officers' married quarters (OMQ) area in Jenan, near Jitra. Staying in Anakbukit which is about 5 km from the state capital was said to be convenient to school at Sekolah Kebangsaan Iskandar, Alor Setar. Then innocently I asked her "Awat Tok cakap macam tu? She replied "..tu depa mai hantaq beraih, gula semalam…", pointing to the goodies on the kitchen table. There were a packet of rice, a packet of sugar, two cans of sardines, a kain batik, sarong and a packet of 555 State Express cigarette (although my late grandpa who was a labourer at the nearby Lembaga PadiBeras Negara [LPN] complex was not a smoker). If I am not mistaken, this goodies-sending tactic was aptly applied by Barisan Nasional then and parhaps to them the tactic worked like a charm. But they are still at it now? I mean, come on man! Don't tell me you guys are doing the same thing over and over again? No better idea to reach simple kampung folks huh? Hopefully this old-style campaigning is only peculiar to Kedah and not elsewhere in this internet age where simple kampung folks aren't that easy to fool anymore? But folks in Kedah are no longer simple and gullible and next to the kampung I used to grow up lies the Kedah version of Putrajaya -- Kompleks Pentadbiran Kerajaan Negeri Kedah, Anakbukit and Alor Setar now enjoys city status nevermind there are still "ayaq achaq" everywhere especially around Market Koboi in the middle of the city! Years later when I used to serve Umno as a Pemuda Umno Information Chief in a certain division in Kedah and I can tell you that we younger guys disapproved of this method, lest we have no other new ideas. It was forbidden (by the good Dr M) to be used during the double by-elections – for Anakbukit State Assembly seat and the Pendang Parliamentary seat in 2001. Both seats are in Kedah, Anakbukit being a semi-urban while Pendang rural. But, now as we prepare for the 13th General Election, certain things do not change, no? I think it should still be ok lah if they had a picture of "dacing" on the packet, but this guy, again? Owh, come on man! Sumbangan ikhlas, seriously? | ||
| Posted: 22 Jan 2012 08:19 AM PST Its Chinese New Year again. I really miss CNY during my childhood days. Our Chinese friends in the kampung would go around, inviting us - the Malays, Indians and others - to their open house. The best part for kids was getting the 'ang-pow' while the elderly were overjoyed with a gift of 'kuih bakul'. ![]() I wonder where my 'darling' Yau Lin Na and buddies like Mok Kiang Tong, Goh Kun Teik, Alan, Ah Kow The Robber, Ah Keng and the rest are. We were very much a 1Malaysia society back then... To Malaysians, especially the Chinese, HAPPY NEW YEAR. Hope that one day, Malaysians will not be identified by their races but by their nationality... (Thank you to Quah, Siew, Tan Tauke, Vincent, Danny and others for the invitation. I will try to make it). | ||

| Guan Eng: I will not apologise Posted: 21 Jan 2012 11:30 PM PST January 22, 2012 By CHRISTOPHER TAN Star GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said he will not apologise for describing the Tang Hak Ju land deal as a scandal or land scam. "If Penang Barisan Nasional working committee chairman Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan is not happy, he can sue me or the state government but we will not apologise," he said. "Teng has said the state government did not lose RM40mil but RM500,000 following the Court of Appeal's decision which ruled in the state government's favour. "But please remember, the court's decision is not final because there is an appeal to the Federal Court," Lim said to reporters after opening the newly upgraded Pulau Tikus market yesterday. He claimed the previous Barisan state government caused the scandal which caused losses to Penang. Lim said the state had deposited about RM15mil with the High Court over the case. "Can we get back the RM15mil? If we cannot, is Teng going to pay? On Feb 19, 2009, the High Court ordered the state government to deposit RM14,678,135 with the court. In 2001, Tang had leased a piece of land in Seberang Prai from the state government which was later found to be privately owned. On Oct 4, 2005, a High Court decided in favour of Tang, who had sued the Penang Chief Minister, state secretary and state financial officer over a 4.3ha land deal. Tang was awarded RM29.3mil in damages. With interest, the sum is now over RM40mil. "It is still a scandal. The only question is whether the state has to pay RM40mil or RM500,000. We do not know the final outcome," Lim said. It was reported yesterday that Teng demanded that the Penang Government apologise to the people and withdraw terms such as "land scam" and "scandal" in reference to the Tang Hak Ju land deal as they have criminal connotations. Teng said the present state government led by Lim should do so following the overturning of the High Court's ruling by the Court of Appeal in Putrajaya. On Jan 11, the Court of Appeal set aside a High Court ruling which ordered the state government to pay Tang RM40mil, including interests and instead ordered the state to pay the plaintiff RM500,000 for incidental expenses. | ||
| Guan Eng: Stop bullying the Chinese and stop frightening the Malays Posted: 21 Jan 2012 11:22 PM PST 22 January 2012 13:15 Written by Lim Guan Eng Malaysia Chronicle The time has come to implement economic policies that are clean, fair, competitive and improves the well-being of the people as well as attract back talented Malaysians that can help transform Malaysia into a high-income nation enjoyed by all. What better time than the year of the water dragon to initiate such changes so that the coming general elections marks the new beginning that would be enjoyed by all Malaysians rich and poor by 2020. Present policies which are corrupt, opaque with no open tenders and benefits only certain cronies would only bring Malaysia backwards. A good comparison is South Korea. In 1970, Malaysia's Gross National Income(GNI) per capita was USD 380 as compared to South Korea USD 260. But 40 years later in 2010, Malaysia's GNI per capita was at USD 7,760 while South Korea had exceeded us by almost 3 times at USD19,890 (World Bank) Malaysia's failure to compete is compounded by the horde of Malaysians leaving. Even the BN government concedes that 2 million Malaysians have left the country since Merdeka in 1957. Countless Malaysians have PR in foreign countries including present Ministers and former Ministers. No one blames the 2 million Malaysians for leaving when the present policies stresses more on politics of division and hate than results-oriented performance drive our best and brightest away. A recent example is the unfair, harsh and humiliating treatment of temporary Chinese primary school teachers by reducing their benefits arbitrarily without any consultation. How much will it cost the Federal government to continue maintaining existing benefits or even increasing them to temporary teachers? I doubt that such costs will exceed the RM250 million National Feedlot Corporation scandal where money meant for rearing cows is used instead to purchase luxury condos. Why allow the few cronies to earn extraordinary profits at the expense of 28 million Malaysians. For instance, it took RM 6 billion to build the North-South Highway. But the toll operators have collected RM 24.3 billion as at 31.12.2010 and yet can continue to collect toll till end 2038 and increase toll every year! As the toll operators have already made RM18.3 billion in profits, there is no reason why toll can not be abolished. Even more talented Malaysians will leave if BN continues to blame the Chinese and minorities for the federal government's failed policies or use the Chinese threat to frighten the Malays. How can the Chinese be a threat to Malays when critical economic sectors such as banking, insurance, ports, highway toll concessions and infrastructure, transport, automotive industry, IPPs, sugar, rice, flour, plantation products, oil and gas are dominated by Malays? We must grow up believing in our abilities, trusting each other and have faith that Malays and non-Malays can be world champions. Malays and non-Malay kids must grow up respecting each other as Malaysians and hating only corruption. 2000-9 is the lost decade of corruption where RM1,077 billion of "black money" was illicitly and secretly taken out of Malaysia. Enough is enough! Let us implement policies that will stop corruption, wipe out poverty, attract back Malaysian talents so that Malaysia can be a high-income nation enjoyed by everyone regardless of race, religion or gender. Let us welcome the Year of the Dragon by implementing policies that are clean, fair, competitive and improves our standard of living. Happy Chinese New Year! | Project to widen highway bottleneck starts this month Posted: 21 Jan 2012 11:19 PM PST January 21, 2012 Star THE Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway in Penang is finally set to have three lanes on both sides of its entire stretch. A bottleneck near the Batu Uban marine police base which reduces the three lanes (on each side) to two is undergoing a road-widening project that began this month. Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the RM3.7mil project was undertaken as a corporate social responsibility initiative by IJM Corporation Berhad. "This expansion and upgrade essentially resolves a 10-year-old problem of a 2km traffic jam caused by the road narrowing from three to two lanes. "By widening a 400m stretch on each bound, the state hopes to reduce this traffic congestion problem that has haunted motorists, especially the industrialists and workers at (the Free Industrial Zone in) Bayan Lepas," he said. Tight squeeze: A traffic jam caused by a bottleneck on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway He was speaking during a symbolic ground breaking of the project yesterday. Lim added that the project was announced in August last year, but plans at that time included only the widening of one side of the road which was not satisfactory to the state. "We felt both sides should have three lanes each and went back to the drawing board." IJM Land general manager (northern region) Toh Chin Leong said the upgraded project would also include the rebuilding of an overhead pedestrian bridge along the 400m stretch and the building of a U-turn at Persimpangan Bertingkat Gelugor. "The existing pedestrian bridge will be demolished and a new one with a higher clearance of 5.4m will be built." On the new U-turn, he said a new acceleration/deceleration lane would be built to ensure road users could make the turn safely. "With this U-turn, motorists from George Town who are heading in the direction of Bayan Lepas will no longer need to drive all the way to the Bayan Mutiara Interchange or use the narrow Jalan Hajjah Rehmah in Jelutong. "This will save motorists about 3.5km each way if they are headed to places like Tesco, E-Gate and Green Lane," he said. Toh said preparation works had already begun on the project and construction would kick into high gear after the Chinese New Year, adding that the whole project was targeted for completion by Sept 1. Free Industrial Zone Penang Companies' Association (Frepenca) president Horst Rosenmueller, who was also present, lauded the project, saying that it would benefit thousands of people working in Bayan Lepas. "There are many workers travelling daily from the island to the mainland and back so it's very important to open up this bottleneck. "I am happy because it (the traffic congestion) was a pain for our employees in the FIZ who are stuck in jams every morning and evening," he said. | ||
Pisau kata "PAS dah jadi sayap DAP" | ||

| Najib for Moderation – Typical Good Cop Bad Cop tactics Posted: 21 Jan 2012 08:37 PM PST We read from Malaysiakini's Susan Loone that BeEnd Penang is launching a campaign to promote 'moderation' call of our PM Najib and took a swipe at PAS for their so-call Islamic extremism. PM Najib for Moderation?Apparently, it seems that our 'ah-jib' gor is advocating a call for 'Global Moderation' and thus, BeEnd of Penang is using the theme to woo visitors to their Chinese New Year Open House on this Tuesday of the coming week. Judging by the effort of these boot-licking politicians of all races, I presume BeEnd of Penang is fearing that a small crowd will attend their open house functions and this won't look good for the ah-jib gor who will be gracing the event as VVIP. As for the moderation call by 'ah-jib gor', PM Najib should back up his words and vision with practical actions. How practical? Easy… first thing in the morning tomorrow, headlines splashed across our mainstream media reporting the ARREST of froggie ibrahim ali of (perkosa) for sedition and inciting racial hatred among peace-loving Malaysians. BUT, will PM Najib willing to do so? I doubt it… Therefore, base on that alone, Malaysians can easily conclude that 'moderation' is not for 'ah-jib' gor. Najib Good Cop, Perkasa Bad Cop…It won't take a genius to see through what dUmno has been doing since Independence. I'm pretty sure that the bast*rd Brits left some of their manual books to be found by dUmno such as 'Divide & Rule 101′ and 'Ruling for idiots'. The good cop and bad cop has been the practice of dUmno in their agenda of divide and rule to ensure their iron fist firmly grip on the corridors of power in Malaysia. In this case, Najib is playing the good cop – advocating moderation for all races while Moohiydin and perkosa ibrahim ali is the bad cop – championing the cause of a single race in the country. For the past 50 years, they pitted Malaysians against one another on the name of 'bangsa' (race) in order to ensure their own personal interested is safe from the knowledge of the public. This is one of the reason why these so-call ruling elites could hold on the reign of power from one generation to another. It is as if God's given rights to rule over the rakyat who should remain as stupid and ignorant as ever while they continue to plunder the wealth of the country. Systematic effort to plunder the country by our ruling elites.Even in this time of advanced technology, they still refused to accept the fact that it's time to let go and give back to the people of what they should really have. They continue to plunder the country and bulldozed their way through with draconian laws and regulations to ensure the rakyat is suppressed continuously. If there is any voice of decent, these ruling elite will silence it with 'lawful' means even though it is not really constitutional. The children of these ruling elites were so much pampered and they were almost close to being an illiterate. While most of BeEnd lawmakers are made of local warlords instead of intellectuals, laws after laws are being passed in the legislative to ensure their personal interest are secured even though they are contradicting each other. Constitutions are 'semi-quoted' to suit their political agenda without taking consideration of its complete context and with the mainstream media singing to their tunes, I begin to believe the saying "when lies are told repeatedly, they become the truth." Pathetic! It's TIME for a Change in Putrajaya! If Malaysians are still not ready or courageous enough to change the person in charge in Putrajaya, then it will be our next generations who will have to suffer in poverty and insufficiency. Transparency International has recently ran a report stating that from the period of 2001 till 2009, Malaysia has been systematically siphoned of nearly RM1000 BILLIONS away from our own shore. Who on earth will have the ability to move stashes of cold hard CA$H out of Malaysia without the prying eyes of the authorities? Do you believe that we got so many David Cooperfields living in our midst that almost anything can go missing in Malaysia. A reality of Malaysia Boleh! We REALLY need a CHANGE during this upcoming 13th General Election! We are getting too many missing things in Malaysia so much so that I'm really scared that one day, you and I are going to go missing as well… What else could not go missing when we got jet engines, Bala the PI and now, astronomical sum of money just went missing without a trace from our country! Please make sure you are a registered voters in Malaysia electoral roll and resolute in your heart that you wanna be a part of this GREAT change in Malaysia. It is difficult but it is NOT IMPOSSIBLE! | ||

| Do you notice more expectant mums around? Posted: 21 Jan 2012 07:16 PM PST The other day, I noticed two expectant mothers working in a coffee shop in BG Perdana. 'Productive' place I thought, but soon I realized that one of the reasons was due to the wish for Dragon babies among Chinese in particular. With the Chinese, the impact of 'kiasuism' in anything always creates magnified effects, resulting in greater demand for certain products or services. Businessmen are likely to provide the supply and make good profits. Very predictable indeed. The other point is that when it comes to mainland Chinese, the sheer number would overwhelm even the best of planned services. Excerpt from a news report: "Lee says she tried to book a maternity bed at her gynaecologist's hospital soon after she found out she was pregnant, but it was already too late. "I couldn't get my preferred private hospital to deliver even though I'm willing to pay and both me and my husband are Hong Kong residents," she says. "Some friends told me I should start registering my Dragon baby girl for kindergarten - it's like a fight for hospitals, a fight for schools. I have to remind myself to take it easy." Mainland mothers accounted for 38,043 out of 80,131 births in Hong Kong last year. In the last Year of the Dragon in 2000, the number of births jumped 5.6 per cent from the previous year, according to official data. In anticipation of a baby boom the government has tightened entry rules, stepped up border controls and capped hospital places for mainland mothers. Mainland women have reportedly taken to smuggling their precious cargoes into the territory under baggy clothes, or renting Hong Kong apartments in the early stages of pregnancy to avoid detection. Some desperate women have even resorted to waiting until the last minute to force their way into Hong Kong emergency wards. Hospital authorities say emergency births tripled last year. "The issue is far more complicated than we imagine," says Cheung Tak Hong, head of the obstetrics department at Hong Kong's Prince of Wales Hospital, a government hospital near the Chinese border. "The system just cannot cope. The increase in the manpower and facilities just cannot catch up with the demand from China. There are far too many pregnant women from China coming to give birth in Hong Kong." The doctor, who is a spokesman for the Hong Kong Obstetrics Concern Group, says mainland women are putting the lives of themselves and their babies at risk. "They have no bookings, we don't have their records, we don't know them beforehand and all of a sudden they come here in advanced labour. That puts a lot of pressure on our staff," he says." Namun, selepas kes liwat 1998, saya menolak Utusan Malaysia (kerana terpengaruh sentimen Anwar) selama hampir 12 tahun. Saya tidak membeli mahupun membaca Utusan Malaysia dan media perdana lain kerana semuanya digelar media fitnah. Selepas saya mengubah fikiran (perjuangan politik), saya kembali kepada Utusan Malaysia malahan menunjukkan dengan bangga saya membeli akhbar Utusan Malaysia. Tanpa perjuangan Utusan Malaysia, kita tentu sudah sesat kerana tiada yang memperjuangkan hak kita macam Utusan. Dulu saya taksub, anggap semuanya fitnah semata-mata.
