| Imam flings shoes at judges over eviction case Posted: 23 Feb 2012 02:44 AM PST ![]() Imam flings shoes at judges over eviction case
An imam, who had been ordered to be evicted from his premises because of disciplinary problems, took the unprecedented step of throwing his shoes at three judges on the Federal Court bench today. The incident took place just after 10am when the three-man bench led by Chief Judge of Malaya Justice Zulkifli Ahmad Makinuddin (right) rejected imam Hoslan Hussain's application to hear his appeal. This followed an objection raised by the Federal Territory Islamic Affairs Council (MAIWP) lawyer Zulkefli Che Yong that Hoslan's affidavit was filed outside the timeframe allowed. Hoslan, who was not represented, was standing at the row of tables where the prosecutors and lawyers are seated. The imam is said to have argued with Justice Zulkefli and asked him to be lenient, but the judge replied that the bench had to allow the preliminary objection as this was in accordance with the law. Justice Zulkefli tried to pacify Hoslan, but the imam did not want to listen any longer and suddenly took off his shoe and flung it at the judges' bench. The shoe narrowly missed the head of one of the judges, but then Hoslan took off his other shoe and threw it - which hit the deputy registrar of the apex court. The two other members on the panel were Justice Suriyadi Halim Omar and Justice Zaleha Zahari. Following the incident, police on duty at the court grabbed hold of Hoslan and calmed him down. The court then adjourned the matter and as the lawyers left, Hoslan held a prayer in court. It is learnt that the three-member bench did not initiate any contempt order against Hoslan. The deputy registrar is said to have asked mainstream media not to report the shoe throwing. MAIWP wants to evict imam According to MAIWP's lawyer Zulkifli, the council wanted to evict Hoslan, an imam rawatib or an appointed by the community, who has been with the Ar Rahimah mosque in Kampung Pandan since 2008, because of disciplinary problems. He said Hoslan (left) refuses to read the stipulated khutbah as required by MAIWP and that there were also other complaints against him."However, he does not want to leave his quarters in the mosque premises, resulting in MAIWP applying to the High Court to evict him, and the court in Kuala Lumpur issued an order for him to be evicted on June 16 last year. "Hoslan appealed to the Court of Appeal and it upheld the High Court decision on Sept 20 last year, resulting in the case coming up to the Federal Court today," Zulkifli said. He said Hoslan's notice of motion to the Federal Court was not filed within the stipulated time. Hence, the lawyer said he had been instructed to raise a preliminary objection under the Courts of Judicature Act as well as the Federal Court Rules, under which applicant's affidavit should also be filed, within 30 days of the motion being filed. "This is the procedure and Hoslan did not comply with it," Zulkifli said. The imam tells a different story (Seals: You Must Read this) Contacted later by Malaysiakini, Hoslan said his grouse was not eviction but justice, for he had been highlighting corruption and abuse of funds at the Ar Rahimah mosque and these issues had not been attended to. He claimed that he had made numerous reports to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and also to the police over the abuses, but there had been no action. "In fact, Umno extends its powers on the mosque. It was Umno's hands behind this and it used MAIWP to remove me. "Prior to being an imam rawatib, I was the bilal at the mosque. I have been imam since 2005, but I refused to leave because the mosque committee has been abusing its powers and funds," Hoslan claimed. "I did not have legal representation in all the court cases. It is not that I cannot afford it, but MAIWP has suspended my pay. "I want to set the record straight on corruption and abuses in the mosque. I believe such abuses are taking place in other mosques in the Federal Territory, especially those controlled by Umno." A staunch supporter of PAS Hoslan also admitted to being a staunch opposition supporter of the opposition, especially PAS, and said he helped out in every by-election campaign the party was involved in.At the height of the Bersih 2.0 saga last year, he said, the Friday sermon at his mosque advised the people not to attend the rally. Upon hearing the sermon, Hoslan said, he lifted his robe in protest before the congregation, to show them his yellow Bersih T-shirt. He said one of the abuses he discovered was that of a renowned restaurant paying monthly fee of more than RM3,000 to the mosque – but the money did not reach the mosque committee. The money was allegedly paid to a mosque committee member who approved the restaurant's use of land belonging to the mosque."Despite such blatant abuses, there is no action despite me reporting the matter to the mosque committee. Where is justice?" Hoslan asked. On the shoe-throwing incident today, Hoslan said he was merely making his point on the court's failure to uphold justice and turning a blind eye to such abuses. He said the courts and the justice system were flawed and had failed, especially since former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had been running the country. "Yes, I threw my shoes, the first nearly missing the bench and the second struck the person below (the deputy registrar). I do not believe our courts can uphold justice," Hoslan said. Following the incident, he added, he lodged a police report at the Putrajaya police station and that he would personally submit a copy of the report to inspector-general of police soon. source: http://www-us.malaysiakini.com/news/189968 The world That I see

| Posted: 23 Feb 2012 12:45 AM PST I'm reposting Anas's Zubedy's "I Believe".....Dear Brother and Sister Malaysians, I believe… 'Until we give NO FREE RIDE to every candidate, no matter which party they may represent, we cannot stand proud and say "WE, THE RAKYAT, ARE IN CHARGE".' I believe that a single voter can make a difference. You and I, we are powerful! I believe that we, the rakyat, are in charge. I believe that our votes and actions count for everything. I believe that as we, the rakyat, move for the good of the nation, weare changing our nation for the better. I believe that we the rakyat are more powerful than all the party machineries put together. I believe we can win when we do the right thing. I believe that God is with us when we are genuine, truthful and have faith in Him. I believe. I am looking for fellow believers. I am writing to you as a fellow Malaysian, a fellow believer with a heart for Malaysia. Let's find ways as rakyat to work towards changing Malaysians and Malaysian politics for the better - with love, care and mindfulness; not with anger and hatred. It is our collective responsibility to ensure we improve the quality of our lawmakers, regardless which party they are from. We are the real third force. This moment in time calls us as rakyat to act to make sure we get only our best people to represent us in parliament. When we get the best, it does not matter which party they are from. If we grant the mandate for unfit Malaysians to become our leaders, we are directly responsible for letting our nation fall to neglect. So let's work. Let's work to make sure only the smartest, uncorrupted, hardworking, sound and healthy candidates are elected. I need to convince you that when we believe, we can make a difference… This is what we can do to ensure we have good leaders after the next elections:
Things to bring Your wish list from your MPs/ADUNs A video recording device (your phone camera will be good enough) What to do: Choose to be respectful. Tell them you have a list of what you look for when deciding which leader to vote. Tell them that it will help you decide how to vote if they promise to keep this 'halal contract' between you, a rakyat, and your political representative. Be clear: let them know that regardless of your political inclination, you will choose whoever is better at representing the rakyat. If anything, you want to be guided only by Reason, Conscience and the Constitution. Show them your wish-list and ask them to choose which of the requests they agree with. The more they agree with, the more likely you will vote them. Record a video of their clearly stated promise to keep to these wishes. Request that they say, 'I, _________, if elected as an MP/ADUN, promise to (items on the list which they agree with)'.
Once you have the recording, spread the news - post it up to your Facebook and link it to your Twitter, blogs, and other social media platforms. As a way to share it with other like-minded Malaysians, link the video back tohttp://www.facebook.com/pages/No-Free-Rides/254891967906392
One rakyat in each voting area is all it really takes. You can be that person. When, because of our actions, we make this country better, one day we will look back and know that the reason we made a difference was because we believed. I believe. Do you? anas zubedy

| TTDI market traders in the dark Posted: 22 Feb 2012 05:13 PM PST ![]() To go or not?: The Taman Tun Dr Ismail market is a landmark building in the area. Source: http://thestar.com.my/metro (By S. PUSPADEVI, 22/2/2012)The TTDI Market Traders Association wants the Kuala Lumpur mayor Tan Sri Ahmad Fuad Ismail to take a clear stance on whether the Taman Tun Dr Ismail market will be redeveloped. "Why are we kept in the dark? We do not know what the status is now. The mayor was quoted by two newspapers on Feb 14 that the market would be demolished and the area would be redeveloped into a mixed commercial area, as it was obstructing the MRT line. "It is not true that a majority of TTDI residents want the market to be destroyed as claimed by the mayor in his press statement. We have so far collected 10,000 signatures from residents and traders opposing the demolition of the market," TTDI Market Traders Association chairman Jenny Loo told reporters at the TTDI market yesterday. "So far, the mayor has not met us to discuss how we feel about the matter. Everything has just been via the media," said Loo, adding that traders and residents are unhappy with the fact that their opinions were not being taken into consideration. Ramli Ismail, who is the adviser to the traders association, said Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin had previously mentioned that stakeholders would be included in future discussions and their views on the development of the site taken into consideration. "Why is the mayor saying this now? The traders will not budge from the market and we will stand by this decision, from the beginning till the end. "Most of the residents have objected to the redevelopment plan, saying that this market has existed in the area since 1985. "Where else can we can get a wet market now?" said Ramli, adding that TTDI market had undergone a great deal of development to reach its present status. Ramli said the association had recently received a letter from the KL mayor requesting for a meeting to be held on Feb 27 at the TTDI Community Hall. According to Ramli, the letter did not mention the agenda for the meeting. KL Prima Consult Sdn Bhd, the developer of the project; Tetuan RSP Arkitek Sdn Bhd; TTDI Market Traders Association; and TTDI Residents Association have been invited to attend the meeting. "After we visited the DBKL information centre, we found out that the market is not in the way of the MRT line. So what is happening?" asked Ramli. Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng, who organised the press conference at the market said the traders and residents should be given the chance to voice their opinions on the matter. "They are very confused with the situation as the mayor had not been accessible at any point in time to meet with them to discuss the issue at length. "The traders and residents have the right to know whether the market will be demolished," said Lim. It was reported in The Star on Jan 6 that Raja Nong Chik had confirmed that DBKL had received an application to redevelop the site of the market, but no decision had been made on the proposal. Raja Nong Chik had also mentioned that stakeholders would be included in future discussions and their views on the development of the site taken into consideration. DBKL received an application from WCT Sdn Bhd and Perdana Padu Sdn Bhd to redevelop the market site. On New Year's Eve, about 100 traders and residents had staged a peaceful demonstration in front of the TTDI market against the demolition of the market.
