Balancing blogs and mainstream media...

Balancing blogs and mainstream media...

Balancing blogs and mainstream media...

Posted: 09 Feb 2012 10:27 AM PST

"Readers must not believe that everything is gospel truth in the blogs. It may make an interesting reading on some sensational stories that you find in the social sphere but let us not allow our emotions cloud our judgement... To separate truth from spins and half truths, Malaysians should read, decipher and analyse from every source - from the print media to radio, television, and bloggers - to make an educated and informed conclusion." - MCA President Chua Soi Lek.

I must agree with him. Some blogs are deceiving, some produce half truth stories and many become popular for the lies and slanders.

However, some are really good and quality news material. Whether its politics, economy, sosial, world affairs, sports and others, some blogs provide a better insight on certain issues. The writers, normally journalists and professionals like lawyers, doctors and politicians, do not simply sell their soul to the devil over what they write.

But blogging is not journalism although some of the postings are being subscribed by the mainstream media, especially newspapers. I have noticed some good blog postings gained front-page headlines for its precision.

Blogs are personal domain. The owners are free to pen their thoughts and perception as to how and when they wish. And they are the ones responsible for what they write. If it contains elements of defamation and lies, the subject of the posting can sue them for libel. As to date, no laws protect such bloggers.

Just like newspapers, blogs too have niche readership. Those who are fond of sociopolitical issue will read sociopolitical blogs. Those who look for leisure will go for leisure blogs and for those who like reading 'colorful and abusive' blogs, there are many around. And certainly the ones with vulgarity, slanderous and immodest words will gain popularity fast. The hits are theirs.

Yes, some blogs are very invigorating in the sense that readers would make full assessment of the facts and figures. Readers can learn from it; even the mainstream media sometimes fail to reach out to special issues and hence have to depend on blogs feed.

The only thing that separates blogs and the print and electronic media is timing. While blogs provide readers with the latest information at high speed, television and radio will only carry it during news airtime and special segments. Worse is newspapers - it appears the next day or many hours later when people are already talking about it.

And what Chua said is true. Readers must be able to distinguish the truth and 'news sense' by not only referring to blogs. They must also turn to newspapers and the electronic media as this will avoid them from making their own judgement over specific issues.

So, there must be some collaborations between selective bloggers and the mainstream media to enable both sides gain benefit from the 'open news dissemination'. I wonder what has the Press Council set up last year involving the Information, Communication and Culture Ministry, the Home Ministry and representative of the media - formulated thus far!

In some countries like the US, South Korea, Japan and even Cambodia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and South Africa, the government pools senior journalists and selected bloggers into a special task force to help the Cabinet in news monitoring and info gathering.

As blogs get more readers' attention, there is a potential for both sides - blog writers and mainstream media - to work together in many aspects of news 'reporting'. And I personally don't think most reporters attached with the leading newspapers today can produce good 'scoops' as some bloggers do...

Anwar Juga Ada Hak,Tun M Celupar!

Posted: 09 Feb 2012 05:31 AM PST

Sekurang kurangnya mereka berani menyatakan hak mereka. Apa perlunya Tun M bercakap soal undang undang barat.

Penulis faham, barang kali Tun M cemburu kerana Anwar diberi pengiktirafan oleh majalah Jepun dengan liputan eksklusif hingga ke bilik tidor.

Anwar berani tegakkan haknya setegak torpedo beliau menerjah tanah tiga segi kepunyaan benua China.

KUALA LUMPUR 8 Feb.

Sikap mereka amat mengaibkan.

PARASIT PASIR?

Posted: 09 Feb 2012 02:55 AM PST

Salam 2 all.

Teman terkejut membaca pendedahan ekslusif oleh Raja Petra Kamarudin @ RPK mengenai kegiatan lanun pasir di Selangor Darul Ehsan (sila rujuk lamanweb berikut:"malaysianewsnet.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=304&catid=36&ltemid=27").

Teman tak mau komen panjang! Mike baca sendirilah yop!

Jika sahih, pihak berkuasa wajib mengambil tindakan pendakwaan segera!

Enjoy the reading yop!

Adios amigos, grasias senor!

THE SELANGOR SAND MINING SCANDAL
RAJA PETRA KAMARUDDIN
09 Feb 2012

On 23rd May 2009, at around 5.00pm, a meeting was held between a sand contractor (hereinafter referred to as 'SC') and Mat Suhaimi Shafiei in the Sunway Hotel in Seberang Prai, mainland Penang. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss sand-mining in Selangor.

Mat Suhaimi asked SC to submit an application to mine sand to Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd with a copy to him (Mat Suhaimi). Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd is a Selangor state owned company involved in the mining and selling of sand in Selangor.

On 2nd July 2009, at around noon, a meeting was held in Mat Suhaimi's office where he instructed SC to incorporate a company called Double Dignity (M) Sdn Bhd (company number 308078W).

The Directors of the company are:

1. Adnan Bin Abd Mokhtar (IC number 691119-10-5105)

2. Siti Rosmaliza Binti Meo Rasli (IC number 751115-08-5026)

3. Marzaniyah Binti Arshad (IC number 721127-08-5444)

4. Mat Suhaimi Bin Shafiei (IC number 680227-08-5275)

5. Amirudin Bin Shari (IC number 800208-01-6059)

The Director's fees for Mat Suhaimi and Amirudin was agreed at RM5,000 per month.

On 18th January 2010, Double Dignity (M) Sdn Bhd, submitted an application to mine sand in Dengkil (Sepang, Selangor), an area of 45 acres. The letter was copied to Mat Suhaimi and Amirudin Shari. Amirudin Shari supported the application and signed the 'letter of support'. (See the letter below).

An important point to note is that Mat Suhaimi and Amirudin were both registered as Directors of Double Dignity (M) Sdn Bhd on that same day, 18th January 2010. And this is no coincidence. (See the copy of the Form 49 from the Registrar of Companies below).

Before that, however, let us trace what happened prior to 18th January 2010.

On 15th August 2009, at around 10.00pm, Mat Suhaimi contacted SC and asked him for RM3,000 in cash as election campaign funds. At 2.30pm the next day, SC went over to Mat Suhaimi's office to hand over the cash.

At about 10.30am on 25th August 2009, SC handed over another RM2,000 in cash to Mat Suhaimi. The meeting was held in room 1514 of the Pearl View Hotel in Seberang Prai, Penang.

On 9th September 2009, Mat Suhaimi contacted SC and asked for RM35,000 as 'Ramadhan expenses'. The next night, at about 11.25pm, they met at the Restoran Nasi Kandar in USJ12 where SC handed Mat Suhaimi the cash.

It was clearly stated that all this money was payment to assist Double Dignity (M) Sdn Bhd in getting approval from Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd on its application to mine sand in Selangor. Mat Suhaimi told SC that they would need to pay off certain people in Kumpulan Semesta.

On 16th September 2009, Mat Suhaimi contacted SC and told him that he wanted to organise a 'majlis berbuka puasa'. Mat Suhaimi asked SC to organise it and, of course, pay the cost. Mat Suhaimi also asked SC for his RM5,000 monthly Director's fees.

On 17th September 2009, the majlis berbuka puasa (breaking fast) was held in the coffeehouse of the Legend Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. That same night, around 8.45pm, SC paid Mat Suhaimi and Amirudin Shari their Director's fees of RM5,000 each.

A few days later, Mat Suhaimi contacted SC and asked for RM10,000 to pay for the cost of a 'jamuan Hari Raya'. On 30th September 2009, SC met Mat Suhaimi at the Jaya Jusco in Kelang to hand over the money.

On 5th January 2010, Mat Suhaimi contacted SC and asked for RM50,000. This time the amount was not paid in cash like all the previous amounts before this but was paid directly into the bank account of Syarikat A&L Norash Enterprise (account number 100070023904) at Affin Bank in Kelang. The transaction was made on 11th January 2010 (see below).

Norash Enterprise is a company owned by Ashmali Bin Osman and his wife, Norlela Binti Ahmad, close friends of Mat Suhaimi.

RM10,000 was taken out in cash, RM12,500 was paid to Farahsyamsyawati Bt Sulaiman (banker's cheque number 0070210000117), and RM27,500 was paid to Smart Renovators Sdn Bhd (banker's cheque number 0070210000118) on the instructions of Mat Suhaimi.

As follows is the tapped telephone conversation between Mat Suhaimi (telephone number 019-6185239) and SC (telephone number 019-3958888) on 6th January 2010.

Mat Suhaimi: Dalam minggu depan ye…

SC: Pasal saya nak setelkan akaun sikit…

Mat Suhaimi: Okay…

SC: Lepas tu takde masalah lah…

Mat Suhaimi: okay, okay, okay, hari Isnin boleh?

SC: Hari Isnin boleh…lagi satu YB…say mintak tolong satu…saya di Batang Kali ada tanah…geran…nak keluar pasir…pasir banyak lagi tu…

Mat Suhaimi: Berapa besar tanah tu?

SC: Dia 100 lebih ekar…

Mat Suhaimi: Nanti saya bincang dengan Azmin….tapi kena bayarlah…Azmin sedang collect duit untuk pilehanraya…

SC: ah, okay, okay…nanti kita bincang.

On 11th January 2010, SC phoned Mat Suhaimi and the conversation was as follows:

SC: Konfirm ye nombor ini?....Affin Bank ni?...

Mat Suhaimi: Confirm, confirm, confirm…

SC: Ni company…company siapa ni YB?

Mat Suhaimi: Ini….company…yang supply….yang buat event….

SC: okay, okay, okay, okay…confirm ye boleh masuk ye?

Mat Suhaimi: Ya, ya…

SC: Takut lah…nanti tak sampai kepada YB…

Mat Suhaimi: Jangan risau…okay…

And then the whole thing exploded (see the Bernama report below). However, the MACC can't seem to proceed with the investigation and, two years on, this case is still 'under investigation'. Malaysia Today has all the evidence, including the tapped telephone conversation on tape, while the MACC does not appear able to proceed with the investigation.

Why is this? Is this because they have made a 'deal' with Mat Suhaimi and Amirudin, like they did with those two PKR state assemblymen from Perak (Jamaluddin Mat Radzi and Osman Jailu) who were also caught with their pants down and then jumped ship to escape going to jail? (Read more here:http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2009/2/1/nation/3172334&sec=nation)

I suppose it is more useful to keep the investigation open and leave these two as Trojan horses in Pakatan Rakyat Selangor. A Trojan horse is certainly worth many times more than a man in jail. This is the kind of stuff Sun Tzu is made of.

Yes, the same thing happened in Perak. And that brought the Pakatan Rakyat government down when the two PKR state assemblymen caught red-handed in a criminal act were 'persuaded' to change sides. Now, again, we have another two PKR state assemblymen in Selangor who are also caught in a criminal act.

But Pakatan Rakyat has too many seats in Selangor compared to Perak. So even if these two are made to jump that will still not allow Umno to take back the state. So better just leave them there, but on a tight leash, and get them to work as termites, gnawing from the inside to do as much damage as they can.

I remember His Highness the Sultan saying that he can work with any party as long as the state is well run and is corruption free. His Highness also said that he will not tolerate corruption and wants the culprits exposed.

Well Tuanku, as a loyal subject and kerabat of Selangor, I am just doing what Tuanku titah, revealing corruption, never mind which side of the political divide that perpetuates it.

Oh, and for those who are about to say, "Why now?" Well, then when? After Nomination Day and just before Polling Day when by then it would be too late -- as Umno would probably go to town on the matter? At least, now, Pakatan Rakyat still has time to do something about it and convince the voters it is running a clean and transparent government. Or are they not running a clean and transparent government?

Anyway, stay tuned for more as Malaysia Today reveals more shenanigans in the State of Selangor. Yes, there is more, much more to come. And you better believe it because I have just started.

MACC still investigating Selangor sand-mining scandal: Nazri

(Bernama, 24 June 2010) -- The Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) will continue investigations into the alleged graft in the Selangor sand-mining scandal against state sand-mining concession Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said MACC would investigate the allegations thoroughly and not leave any stones unturned during the course of investigations.

"Once investigations are completed, the investigation papers will be handed over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor," he told Wee Choo Keong (Bebas-Wangsa Maju) in a written reply at the Dewan Rakyat here today.

Wee had wanted to know whether any action had been taken or would be taken by MACC over a report made by Kapar Member of Parliament S. Manikavasagam (PKR) with regard to the alleged sand-mining graft involving Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd.

Mohamed Nazri said MACC had already taken action on illegal sand-mining syndicates in a number of states, including Selangor.

"So far, 42 offenders have been detained and 22 cases have been filed in court," he said.

Fox Fm's Mate Match radio show...

Posted: 09 Feb 2012 01:48 AM PST

got the whole of Sydney laughing....

Just imagine sitting in traffic on your way to work and hearing this. Many Sydney folks heard this on the FOX FM morning show in Sydney .

The DJs play a game called 'Mate Match'. The DJ calls someone at work and ask if they are married or seriously involved with someone. If the contestant answers 'yes', he or she is then asked 3 random yet highly personal questions.

The person is also asked to divulge the name of their partner with (phone number) for verification. If their partner answers those same three questions correctly, they both win the prize.

The Harbour City dropped to its knees with laughter and is possibly the funniest thing you've heard yet .

Anyway, here's how it all went down:

DJ: 'Hey! This is Ed on FOX-FM. Have you ever heard of 'Mate Match'?'

Contestant: (laughing) 'Yes, I have.'

DJ: 'Great! Then you know we're giving away a trip to the Gold Coast if you win. What is your name? First only please.'

Contestant: 'Brian.'

DJ: 'Brian, are you married or what?'

Brian: (laughing nervously) 'Yes, I am married.'

DJ: 'Thank you. Now, what is your wife's name? First only please.'

Brian: 'Sara.'

DJ: 'Is Sara at work, Brian?'

Brian: 'She is gonna kill me.'

DJ: 'Stay with me here, Brian! Is she at work?'

Brian: (laughing) 'Yes, she's at work.'

DJ: 'Okay, first question - when was the last time you had s*x?'

Brian: 'About 8 o'clock this morning.

DJ: 'Atta boy, Brian.'

Brian: (laughing sheepishly) 'Well...'

DJ: 'Question #2 - How long did it last?'

Brian: 'About 10 minutes.'

DJ: 'Wow! You really want that trip, huh? No one would ever have said that if a trip wasn't at stake.'

Brian: 'Yeah, that trip sure would be nice.'

DJ: 'Okay. Final question. Where did you have s*x at 8 o'clock this morning?

Brian: (laughing hard) 'I, ummm, I, well...'

DJ: 'This sounds good, Brian. Where was it at?'

Brian: 'Not that it was all that great, but her mum is staying with us for couple of weeks...'

DJ: 'Uh huh...'

Brian: '...and the Mother-In-Law was in the shower at the time.'

DJ: 'Atta boy, Brian.'

Brian: 'On the kitchen table.'

DJ: 'Not that great?? That is more adventure than the previous hundred times I've done it. Okay folks, I will put Brian on hold, get his wife's work number and call her up.

You listen to this.' [ 3 minutes of commercials follow. ]

DJ: 'Okay audience; let's call Sarah, shall we?' (Touch tones......ringing...)

Clerk: 'Kinkos.'

DJ: 'Hey, is Sarah around there somewhere?'

Clerk: 'This is she.'

DJ: 'Sarah, this is Ed with FOX-FM. We are live on the air right now and I've been talking with Brian for a couple of hours now.'

Sarah: (laughing) 'A couple of hours?'

DJ: 'Well, a while now. He is on the line with us. Brian knows not to give any..answers away or you'll lose. Sooooooo... Do you know the rules of 'Mate Match'?'

Sarah: 'No.'

DJ: 'Good!'

Brian: (laughing)

Sarah: (laughing) 'Brian, what the hell are you up to?'

Brian: (laughing) 'Just answer his questions honestly, okay? Be completely honest..'

DJ: 'Yeah yeah yeah. Sure. Now, I will ask you 3 questions, Sarah. If your answers match Brian's answers, then the both of you will be off to the Gold Coast for 5 days on us.

Sarah: (laughing) 'Yes.'

DJ: 'All right. When did you last have s*x, Sarah?'

Sarah: 'Oh God, Brian....uh, this morning before Brian went to work.'

DJ: 'What time?'

Sarah: 'Around 8 this morning.'

DJ: 'Very good. Next question. How long did it last?'

Sarah: '12, 15 minutes maybe.'

DJ: 'Hmmmm. That's close enough. I am sure she is trying to protect his manhood. We've got one last question, Sarah. You are one question away from a trip to the Gold Coast. Are you ready?'

Sarah: (laughing) 'Yes.'

DJ: 'Where did you have it?'

Sarah: 'OH MY GOD, BRIAN!! You didn't tell them that did you?'

Brian: 'Just tell him, honey.'

DJ: 'What is bothering you so much, Sarah?'

Sarah: 'Well...'

DJ: Come on Sarah.....where did you have it?

Sarah: 'Up the arse.....'

They had to call an ambulance for the DJ he thought he was going to have a heart attack , he could not stop laughing. Apparently there was an unusually high call out of the Sydney Police just after this conversation, for minor traffic collisions.

(Now we know why police take statements from suspects and witnesses separately!)

Coffe Boy PKR katanya akan dedahkan pemilik majalah BUBKA,sumber dalaman gamaknya, hebat bukan..

Nurul Izzah katanya sahkan itu adalah fitnah dari negara Umno bahagian Jepon, macam macam telahan puak PKR semata mata menghalalkan ngentot pak syiekh.

Malang buat haprak pakatan, kehabisan modal dituduhnya orang lain kaki porno walhal pak syiekh anugerah tuhan mereka yang tukang pelaku porno.

Friends on Facebook

Posted: 08 Feb 2012 11:03 PM PST

Mary Schneider posted this image on Facebook. It so happens I was about to write on how I feel about so-called friends on Facebook.

In the context of the above funeral scene, it shows the number of friends one had on FB is no indication of the actual turnout at one's funeral, which is understandable.

In case some people did not realize, close friends are likely to be in touch, by phone if not in person. FB is great where friends or relations are separated by distance. It is also good for looking up long lost friends. But where the names are common, it can be frustrating going through a long list, with some faceless ones, when trying to look for a long lost friend or relative. Most require that you are already their friend before you could check for more details to confirm if you have got the right person. I had my fair share of friends who promised to 'accept' but for some reasons, did not! There are also people who are afraid of others knowing about their being in touch with old flames. In other words, we should not be too bothered by description nor whether one is already someone's friend on FB. Really close friends are likely not to be friends on FB!

I have recently added an ex-classmate in college. Somehow, for the first time, I was asked to tick whether she is 'close' friend. I did and she becomes my first and till now, my only close friend! The reason was because I did run through my list of friends on FB and most of them are relatives who cannot be considered friends because we are related. Then there are politicians who I used to be associated with or I admire from a distance. There is another ex-classmate in Kelantan who I had not met since I last visited him in University of Singapore 40 years ago! So how close is close? I knew him at the same time as my so-called 'close friend' on FB, when in college, but never in touch until I found him in FB. Besides, there are new friends I have yet to meet in person! In the case of those I don't really know, sometimes, it is difficult not to accept someone's good intention to be friend.

I am sure there are those who check on someone's friends to find out more about certain persons. Well, for those who are worried about being spied on, then they should not be on FB!

PAS Istihar Nak Jadi Ketua Pakatan?

Posted: 08 Feb 2012 10:00 PM PST

Katanya mahukan hudud ,kemudian tukaq tak jadi sebab DAP berdehem, kemudian nak negara kebajikan,Nik Aziz berdehem pulak habis gelabah seluruh angkatan khawarij negara.Hangat cerita hudud sampai sekarang diam katanya tok wali nak ada hudud sebelum PRU13,sampai sekarang ada korang dengar hudud nak laksana?

Macam biasalah PAS ceramah bagai nak rak, takbir sampai tekak kering ,jihad katanya.

Police have handed over investigation papers on posters deriding Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and Bersih 2.0chairman Datuk S. Ambiga to the DPP office.
Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Wan Abdul Bari Khalid said they were awaiting instructions from the DPP's office on whether to charge the 10 suspects in connection with the posters found last week.
"We have completed our investigations and submitted the papers today because the office was closed on Monday and Tuesday due to the public holidays," he said yesterday.
The posters were found pasted at bus stops in Taman Tun Dr Ismail on Saturday.
They carried images of Lim, with a swastika in the background and a caption accusing him of being a racist, and of Ambiga, who was labelled a gay sex advocate.
The suspects were arrested with the help of CCTV recordings in the area.
Their statements were recorded and they have since been released on police bail.

NAJIB AGREES TO SET UP RCI

Posted: 08 Feb 2012 08:11 PM PST

DOMPOK: "All I can say is that it (RCI) has been discussed at the Cabinet, the rest we leave it to the Prime Minister to say." And yes, I am smiling from ear to ear. Who would not? After a consistent stand on the RCI since Upko inception in 1994, we now see the result. Upko takes credit. Yes. And yes, other parties too. It is a perjuangan embraced by all the parties, BN or otherwise in Sabah. Perjuangan belum selesai. Bravo to you sir...

NOD FOR RCI INTO SABAH ILLEGALS

By MUGUNTAN VANAR

KOTA KINABALU, 8 Feb 2012: The Federal Government is said to have approved the setting up of a Royal Commission of Inquiry into Sabah's long-standing illegal immigrants problem.
While senior Sabah leaders in the Cabinet declined to disclose the decision concerning the setting up of the RCI, they indicated that there were some positive developments on the issue.
The RCI - which has been called for by all Sabah Barisan Nasional parties and the Opposition - has become a key issue as Sabahans perceived that many foreigners had gained Malaysian citizenship through dubious means and were on the voter rolls.
Parti UPKO president Tan Sri Bernard Dompok said: "All I can say is that it (RCI) has been discussed at the Cabinet, the rest we leave it to the Prime Minister to say."
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk V.K. Liew in a Facebook posting said: "Confirmed guys, RCI is on, now working on the terms and conditions.''
When contacted, Liew, who is Liberal Democratic Party president, said his ministry that oversees Law and Parliamentary Affairs, would look into the terms and reference and other related matters with the Attorney-General's chambers.
All eight Sabah Barisan parties, including Sabah Umno, Parti Upko and Parti Bersatu Sabah, have supported the setting up of the RCI to help examine and resolve the illegal immigrant problem that has been dubbed as the "mother of all problems'' facing Sabah.
Among the issues about the illegal immigrant problem was abnormal growth of Sabah's population over the last two decades. THE STAR

RPK Tabur Pasir Dalam Periuk Nasi Pemimpin Politik Pakatan

Posted: 08 Feb 2012 05:00 PM PST

Banyak sumber. Dalaman.

Arahan siapa? Ketakutan apa yang mereka nak sorokkan?

Nampaknya SELANGOR sudah pantas menjadi sebuah MAFIA STATE.

Kalau terpaksa membunuh. Mereka akan membunuh.

Siapa Al Capone di Selangor? Siapa? Orang PKR? Sudah tentu lah bro!!!
