| Posted: 27 Feb 2012 08:48 AM PST A-ahhh! That Amhari is actually one of PM's special officer in-charge of the new media. Young, in his early 30s, he was just delivering what was consigned on him. Let's just forgive this delivery guy. However, the person who prepared the reports on 'social media network' for Amhari to brief the Cabinet on February 22nd (of course that made Amhari appeared like a secretary of state) has a novice mind about the topic. Around the world, social media network is an entirely different subject than that of mainstream media. It comprises of blogs, news portal, twitter, etc. But the Cabinet had on that particular day listened to comparison made between agencies under the Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture - namely RTM, Information Dept and JASA - and Astro and the vehicles under Media Prima Group. What did they compare? The number of followers on RTM, Astro and Media Prima Facebook (FB). And since RTM recorded the least (about 80,000) as compared to over 1 million for Astro and Media Prima, the minister in charge of RTM was deemed as not performing. The person who prepared the report also failed to attribute blogs, news portal, twitter and FB as the main elements under social media network. I am not sure what was the reason behind that 'school boy' report but I believe it has something to do with one's political ambition. To replace someone, you must be smart in your maneuvers. As general election is around the corner, this is the perfect time to undermine the person whom you like to replace most. And I am equally petrified with the fact that four years after the last general election, the issue of 'how the Opposition new media works', took center stage. What a farce! I believe Barisan Nasional has the most well-equipped propaganda machinery. We have all the money and the means but we seemed to be far from well-prepared to take up the challenges of the national poll. Otherwise, we won't be wondering at how the Opposition media performs. My fellow pro-BN bloggers would also be equally frustrated if BN loses the battle. 'Alpha-bloggers' like Rockybru, Big Dog, A Voice, Syed Akbar and a few more have thrown whatever they had to help BN (although nobody had ever asked us to). We don't take a single sen from BN or Umno. That makes us owing nothing to the people at the top but we will continue giving the support, unless the 'bosses' tell us to stop. Then, we will delete our blogs and news portal. Aren't we part of the social media network? I better stop here. Thanks to the deputy minister whom I met at the PMO yesterday, and of course to a senior officer who told me straight in the face that 'we don't need too many bloggers around'. However, I remember how Mr Prime Minister had, in a Cabinet meeting last year, told each and every minister to set up his/her own new media unit to assist the ruling party in the next general election. |

| Punca Khawarij PAS Tak Sertai Demo Lynas Posted: 27 Feb 2012 05:00 AM PST ![]() Patutlah khawarij PAS tak sertai Demo Anti Lynas, rupanya diaorang dah tahu ini semua kerja bodoh dan pembohongan daripada PKR. Ikuti pendedahan dari blog JomoMalaya Kenyataan Hj Hadi Bapak Presiden Khawarij PAS:- "Saya hendak menarik perhatian tentang isu lynas yang dibangkitkan perwakilan. Saya minta isu ini dirujuk kepada pakar. Kita ada pakar Nuklear, Dr Rosli Che Mat, Ahli Parlimen Hulu Langat. Dia PhD dalam bidang Nuklear, Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, bahagian keracunan. Jangan rujuk kepada orang lain. Nak tahu pasal kelapa sawit, jangan tanya pakar getah. Sebelum buat keputusan, rujuk pakar kita. |

| Woman who signed away inheritance Posted: 27 Feb 2012 08:25 AM PST The Irish lawyer Maurice Healy recounts in his book, The Old Munster Circuit, the story of a well-to-do Irishman who made his money in America, and returned to Ireland to die. He had quarreled with his family, and lived with a small farmer and his wife, who looked after him well. As often happens in such circumstances, the farmer's wife's one worry was to make sure of getting the old man's money. The priest told him that it was his duty to make a will. "Leave the room!" the priest ordered the farmer's wife. Reluctantly she went and alone the priest helped the dying man to make his will. A serving girl was called in to be the second witness. As soon as the priest had departed, the wife could contain herself no longer: she crept into the room and, with the body lying stiff on the bed, searched everywhere for the will. At last, she found it: all was well, everything was left to her and her husband. "There it stood," relates Healey, "witnessed by the priest and the girl." But she still felt unsafe. Somehow the piece of paper seemed so naked, with just those two signatures upon it, and that of the man now lying dead before her. She took pen and ink, and wrote in her own name as that of a third witness - thereby signing away her own inheritance and that of her husband, and ensuring that everything went to the distant relatives in the United States whom her lodger, with almost his last breath, had tried to exclude. Alas, she did not know that neither a witness nor the husband or wife of a witness can usually receive anything under a will that they sign as a witness. | Posted: 27 Feb 2012 09:10 AM PST Under Malaysian law governing the distribution of assets of a person who dies intestate (without leaving a will) the widow receives one-third of the property and the remaining two-thirds is shared out among the children. In the event that there are no children, half the property goes to the widow. The deceased's surviving parents then inherit the other half. If there are no parents, the brothers and sisters; if not, then the uncles and aunts, take the half. Only if there is nobody else can the widow take all. On the other hand, the husband gets the whole of the dead wife's estate if she does not leave a will. "In view of this unbalanced Distribution Law on Intestacy, a woman with wealth and property has more reasons to make a will." to quote Mr. Lai Nai Sing, manager of HSBC Trustee Bhd, in 1982. Mr. Lai also warned that any person who qualified as a beneficiary should not be left out of the will. "Under the Inheritance Family Provision Act, a man must provide for those whom he is legally bound to provide for." "Thus, even if there is a black sheep of a son you do not care for, do not leave him out. Even if you leave him only a dollar, this will close the door to any litigation." Another point to note is that any gift or gifts to attesting witnesses or their spouses shall be void. For example, you should not sign as a witness to your father-in-law's will which leaves everything to your husband. Apart from this, a will is valid only if it fulfills these four conditions: 1. The person who makes it must be of age (over 18 years in Malaysia); 2. He or she must be of sound mind; 3. The will must be in writing; 4. The signature must be witnessed by two independent witnesses (people who are not beneficiaries to the will). (From an article, Why it's important to make your will, published in The Star on September 23, 1982.) What will you do if your mother inherited 1/3 of 2/3 of her father's property, in accordance with the law on intestacy? We have a strange situation where my mother was asked to sign off her share (2/9), to be shared equally between her two late brothers' families. Was there undue pressure or influence which made her sign the will in 1975? The fact that my mother signed a new will (which according to the law on wills, would have superseded the earlier will) without any mention of the provisions of the first will, has now open the possibility of our claim, as beneficiaries, to the property in question. That the administrator (a grandson) of our grandfather's estate, was the sole beneficiary of our grandmother's one-third share sure makes it suspicious to any outsider. Link |
| Motorcylist goes on a tyre-puncturing spree Posted: 26 Feb 2012 06:59 PM PST ![]() Caught in the act: A CCTV grab showing a car tyre being punctured by the suspect. ![]() Danger zone: The tyres of 14 cars were punctured in the late night incident in Jalan Segambut Dalam. Source: http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file=/2012/2/27/central/10808714&sec=central (By S.PUSPADEVI, 27/2/2012)A MOTORCYCLIST punctured the tyres of 14 cars in Jalan Segambut Dalam, Taman Segambut, in the wee hours of the morning but his act was captured on a resident's CCTV. Malaysian Nanban director Ahmad Mydin Sikandar said his neighbour woke him up at about 3.45am and told him that a motorcyclist was puncturing car tyres. "My CCTV recorded the incident which took place at 3.26am on Friday. The suspect, in his 20s, punctured the tyres of four cars parked near front of my gate. "He was wearing a helmet with his face covered by a handkerchief," said the 43-year-old, adding that the CCTV showed that the suspect moved swiftly from one car to another. Lee Wan Hua, 60, said his nephew, who witnessed the incident, ran out and chased the suspect, but he fled on a motorcycle. "I alerted my neighbours and we managed to get a glimpse of the suspect via Ahmad Mydin's CCTV recording," said Lee. A resident of Jalan Segambut Hilir, who was also affected, said her niece realised that her tyres were punctured when she was going to work at about 5.30am. "She woke me up and asked if I could drop her off at work and that is when we noticed that another car of ours was punctured as well," said Lim Wee Kee, 50, an enforcement officer with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL). She said the crime rate in the residential area had increased tremendously over the past one year. Residents also reported that two houses in the neighbourhood were burgled a few days ago. "We are hoping that the police would do something about the increase in crime in the area," said Lim. Segambut Barisan Nasional chairman Jayanthi Devi Balaguru, who visited the affected residents, said she hoped that the police would set up a police beat base in the area and patrol the area, especially after midnight. "Residents should also set up a residents association since the present one has been inactive for years," said Jayanthi. Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng said based on complaints from the residents, he had submitted a proposal to the district police headquarters in Sentul for a police station to be built in the area, but did not get any response. "I have also requested for a meeting between the residents of Taman Segambut and the police, but there was also no response. "The crime rate in this area has increased over the years and it is time for the police to act. "If there is no budget for a police station, then a mobile police beat should be set up to combat crime," he said. He added that the Jinjang Utara police station, the nearest to the area, was located about 5km from Taman Segambut. The residents do not know the motive of the suspect in damaging the vehicles. Some believe that the suspect was high on drugs or was doing it for fun. |
| TTDI market traders left in the dark - Part 2 Posted: 26 Feb 2012 06:52 PM PST ![]() Rocky situation: TTDI market traders want to meet the mayor urgently. Source: http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file=/2012/2/27/central/10810796&sec=central (By S. PUSPADEVI, 27/2/2012)Traders at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail market are concerned whether their licences will be renewed as Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) mayor Tan Sri Ahmad Fuad Ismail had called off a meeting scheduled today. TTDI Market Traders Association chairman Jenny Loo said she received a letter from the KL mayor on Feb 23 stating that the meeting had been called off without stating any reasons. "We are eager to meet the mayor and find out what is going on," said Loo, adding that the letter had also stated that the LRT station would be built at the Caltex station, according to its original plan. The matter was further aggravated when the TTDI Residents Association (RA) said traders would be at the losing end if they did not agree to the proposed redevelopment plan of the market. "A committee member of the RA had said DBKL had every right to ask the traders to leave since the market belonged to the City Hall. As such, I was asked to say yes to the plan," Loo said. She added that the RA had e-mailed TTDI residents asking them to give their votes on the modernisation plan of the market. The e-mail stated that the RA is proposing to have a new and modern market to include more facilities, a multi-storey carpark linked to the MRT station and longer operating hours. It also mentioned that the RA was not supporting a major redevelopment plan to turn the market into commercial lots or serviced apartments but wanted a traditional market. When redevelopment takes place, traders will be temporarily relocated to the open car park between Sinaran Condominium and Bangunan AHP. "How can I agree to the plan when the traders have not given their consent? We have not even seen the proposed redevelopment plan. "We are not confident with the RA as there is no transparency at all. To what extent are they going to modernise the market?" asked Loo, adding that this had resulted in traders speculating if the new market would be privatised. Loo said they wanted to preserve the concept of a traditional market and would only welcome refurbishing plans such as improving the existing wiring system, increasing parking bays and disabled-friendly features, constructing a multi-storey carpark and a skybridge linking the MRT station to the market. "Maintenance of the market should also be improved apart from landscaping the area," she said, adding that the new market should not adopt the concept of Tesco or Giant. There are more than 200 members in the TTDI Market Traders Association. "We want to meet the mayor to give us the clearer picture," Loo added. Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng said he would welcome refurbishment plans provided that the traditional market concept remained. It was reported in StarMetro on Feb 22 that the TTDI Market Traders Association sought an urgent meeting with the mayor following reports in the media quoting Fuad as saying that the market would be demolished as it was obstructing the MRT line and the site would be used for a mixed-development project. |
